You will be making a mistake to pass exit 8 in SC. Camp Lake Jasper is just off that exit, 25 acres seemingly carved out of the 321 acre Sgt Jasper Park.
As 25 year locals, my husband and I never intended to spend 6 months (and counting) in this quiet, boutique style camp ground. Truth be told, we didn't even know about this well kept secret. Sudden empty nesters, our house sold before we had found our downsized home, and we moved "temporarily' into our travel trailer. My husband is employed on the island and although I hate the traffic, I didn't want to be far away from family, the restaurants, arty downtown and shops. I took the time to poke around all of the RV parks from the GA line, to Hilton Head Island, and Yemassee. Then I found (Good Sam), Camp Lake Jasper.
From the farmhouse style general store that houses local honey, propane, wood and most importantly the small, full time staff down to each and every full hook up spot is complete.
The staff, largely coordinated by onsite resident Kim, acts as if they have been waiting all day for you to come in needing a cup of coffee or directions. Every. Single. Time. You. Enter. Susan and Sue somehow juggle the constant ringing phones with the busy check ins as if it is no effort. The park itself with all of its moving parts runs smoothly all day everyday. Jerry, Resident Camp Host never stops. Pick any day, you can find him, always smiling, up on a ladder, riding the mower, stopping for a short chat, cleaning a fire ring or offering to help back you in.
The park is spotless. Even at capacity. I have never seen a full garbage can, trash blowing by, not even a spider web. Kim keeps the squeaky clean Laundry and Shower rooms well lit and cool. There is always warm water, a clean smell, stocked soap and paper towels. She seems to have an army of cleaning elves tucked away on her cart. I have never seen a guest walk away from speaking to either one of them disappointed or empty handed.
From the roomy lots, all the way through to the newer model kayaks and bike rentals, the sheltered fishing dock, fenced dog park, and pristine pool (Year round pool is there literally every single day) to the views of the massive lake from almost anywhere is perfect. I walk or mountain bike through the back of the park to access miles of clean, safe, wooded trails almost every day. My husband commutes easily to the island and I am 25 minutes from Tanger Outlets, Sav airport and downtown.
I would challenge anyone who passed this little campground in favor of any hotel or all inclusive resort whether for a long weekend or an extended stay.
Stop by our site. We are probably still here!
